anticipation of the 50th ACM Awards telecast next spring, the Academy has
opened its archive for the first time ever to reveal candid, never-before-seen

compelling behind-the-scenes stories, and firsthand accounts from country
legends and contemporary artists, This
Is Country: A Backstage Pass to the Academy of Country Music Awards (Insight
Editions / $50.00 / September 2014) offers a rare and intimate glimpse into the
past, present, and evolution of the Academy.
“For five decades, the
Academy of Country Music Awards has proudly showcased the best in country
music, to the delight of millions of viewers,” said Bob Romeo, CEO of the
Academy of Country Music. “We are so excited to share some of the most candid
moments in our history with music fans. ‘This Is Country’ truly is a backstage
pass to the ACM Awards.”
“It’s an incredible honor to
help tell the story of the Academy as well as the stories of the amazing artists
and people behind the scenes who have built it over the last 50 years,” said
Lee. “To flip through the pages and watch the show evolve from a Southern
California banquet to a network television powerhouse is a sight to behold.”
"It's been a wonderful
experience working with the Academy and Lisa Lee," said Robbie Schmidt,
Insight Editions' acquisitions editor. "The ACM has an incredibly rich
history and we're excited to offer country music fans this intimate look behind
the scenes. A special thank you to the iconic artists whose participation and
support made this book possible."
All of the Academy’s proceeds
from sales of the book will go to ACM
Lifting Lives, the philanthropic arm of the Academy of Country
Music, dedicated to improving lives through the power of music. Through
partnerships with artists and strong ties in the music industry, ACM Lifting
Lives develops and funds music-related therapy and education programs, and
serves members of the community who face unexpected hardships through its Diane
Holcomb Emergency Relief Fund. Through generous donations and the support of
artists and fans, ACM Lifting Lives is able to fund everything from disaster
relief and helping communities in need, to music education in schools and music
camps for those with disabilities, to supporting programs that use music
therapy as a means to help our veterans and wounded warriors, while providing
grants to help them ease back into life. For more details on the book or
